Hospital Love Story
Ketika selesai memandikan, aku bilang, 'sekarang saya mau gantian mandi.' So, I went to the bath room. Took a bath. And cried.
Ngobrol. Tidur. Nonton tivi. I can't do either one.
Sehat Bapak. Sehat. PLEASE!!

The Hemorrhagic Conjunctivitis (or something like that)
It is hard to prevent Dek Aik's hand from rubbing his itchy eyes. Now as it is puffy and scratched inside the eyelid, and bleeding, the doctor said he needs to stay at hospital and have infusion to inject some medicine that should stop the bleeding.
It's gonna be a hard sleepless night. How do I make his eyes open, to rub the ointment every 8 hours, and put the eye drop every 3 hours? How do I make him stay still, so I can put some ice on his eye for 10 minutes every other hour to reduce the puffy eyelid?
No need to question.

The Super Woman
She's been bearing the weight of life since she was young, until she got married, then had and raised us: her children.
Later in her dawn, she needs to have a therapy for her back twice a week. Still she goes to the orthopedic hospital by bus, alone. It has been going on for the last 6 years.
But you never know what luck brings you. Last week she was on her way to the hospital for the therapy. She just stepped down the bus and about to walk across the street when a kid with a speedy motorbike hit her, right in front of the hospital.
She got fainted for at least 2 hours, before she finally could asked the nurses to call my elder sister.
***
For two days she had super terrible headache. It was like, she said, the world is turning around and make her sick. Her right leg was broken and needs a surgery. But it can't be done until the headache stops.
Now as the headache is reducing, she can sit up and insists to brush her hair and have her meals by herself. The docs said she's ready for the surgery tomorrow. I hope everything goes well, and my mother soon will be able to run here and there again; like she used to.

The Sickies
Ibu, sedang melahirkan aku. Bapak menunggui kami semua. Ya, jadinya semua pindah tidur ke rumah sakit. Bapak pernah hampir pasrah jika harus kehilangan Ibu, ketika Ibu dirawat sampai berbulan-bulan. Dua adikku pernah balapan melewati masa kritis karena malaria. Kami anak-anak perempuan, semua pernah dioperasi.
God must have a reason to put our family close to hospital. As I recall, since I was little, every one in my family has been treated in hospital. Even when I was born, my sisters were both in hospital. So was my mom, giving me birth. And my dad, taking care of us all. It was like our family moved to the hospital. My Dad once like giving up to lose my mom when she had to stay for months. Both my younger brother once together racing with critical time cause of malaria. We, the girls, all had surgery.
Because it was to often happened, being in hospital was like a normal thing, tho we never liked it. No panic. Knew what to do. Ready for every possibility -- including to owe money to pay the hospital.
Pun ketika Ibit harus dirawat, Dan awalnya panik. Tapi melihat aku tenang, dia pun ikut tenang.
Like when Ibit needed to stay at hospital, Dan was panic at the beginning. But seeing me calm has made him calm too. When one day it was me who needed to stay at hospital, Dan knew exactly what to do and prepare. Once I brought my self to hospital and let the nurses put the infusion on me, then I called Dan to come and bring me things I needed.
I'm telling this, not to say that being in hospital is easy and enjoyable. It is not easy at all, especially when it comes to cost. And not comfortable at all. Being sick is bad enough, even without staying. Get bored is the second misery after the illness. That's why, don't be sick. Take care of our health. Health is one of the biggest treasure... *yes I am reminding my self...*

Pagi ini aku membesuk anak seorang teman. Bayi enam bulan. Ada sesuatu di paru-parunya. Di tangannya dipasang infus. Di duburnya dipasang kateter. Mukanya pucat. Tubuhnya lemah. Matanya redup, lelah habis menangis. Kusentuh diam saja. Kuelus cuma berkedip. Kuajak bicara tidak bersuara.
This morning I was visiting a friend's daughter. A six months old baby. There was some thing in her lungs. She had infusion on his hand, and catheter in her anus. Her face was pale. Her body was weak. Her eyes were dim, tired of crying. I could still a dried tear left in the corner of her eyes. I touched her and she stayed still. I rubbed her and she just blinked. I talked to her but she gives no sound.
Sumpah.
I swear. Watching her suffering was a suffer. We, grown ups, can tell which one hurts. We can understand to bear the pain when we need injections. We understand to be patient that we need to lay in bed for a while to get rid of. But what babies can do?,
Aku yakin, seandainya bisa, ibunya pasti mau mengambil alih semua rasa sakit yang dialami bayinya. Karena aku merasa begitu.
I believe if only she could, her mother would take over all the pain from her baby. Coz that's what I'm feeling
Kirim doa, kirimkan doa. Untuk semua bayi sakit di dunia. Semoga lekas sembuh.
Send your prayers, send our prayers. To all sick babies in the world. Get well. And give tons of patience to their mothers. Because taking care of sick babies is mentally and physically tiring...

the sick
since last tuesday, Ar got a fever. his body is warm to hot, it was 39 Celsius degree. we've seen a doctor, he said Ar might got a laryngitis. but if his temperature didn't go lower in four days, Ar would need a blood test.
Friday afternoon, his temperature was 37. it's low, it's normal. I felt good. but in the evening the temperature rose again. at 20.00 pm it reached 39,4. we bought him to hospital right away.
we hadn't known the blood test results yet, but the doctor suggested Ar to stay for the fever has occurred for four days.we didn't like it, but thought it was the best to do.

I can't stand watching babies in infusions. the lab test results said it was typhus and dengue fever. two weakening illness at the same time must be so hard for a 7 year old boy. he couldn't do nothing but lying on bed. he wouldn't speak. he couldn't even smile.

Ar is a computer boy. Dan brought him a laptop to cheer him up, but he was too weak to sit up in front of it.

day four Ar got better and felt strong enough to take a walk. we went to the balcony and viewed the city. we could see Dan's office which stands next to a mall.
"when I went home, I want to go to that mall next to Bapak's office" Ar said.
so Wednesday afternoon was the time, he was allowed to go home. he could finally smile, he even had his lunch by himself. it feels like going out of jail...
Ar is still weak and need some rest. but thank God he's over with the fever

bye bye chickenpox
It was terrible to see them bearing the fever and itches.
It was horrible to see Ibit standing in front of the mirror and said, ‘Ibu, I look like a monster’ then cried.
I couldn’t even take any picture of them having those dots of the pox all over their bodies - too scary.
Alhamdulillah they have passed through it.
And look at you guys, you are now handsome and beautiful as before!

x-ray and infra-red
Cerita berawal hari Senin kemarin.
I got home and found her still crying in her bed. She wore the shirt incompletely. Her left body was not covered. I touched her elbow and she screamed. I touch her waist and screamed again. It looked hurt so bad I almost cry seeing it.
Aku pegang sikunya dia menjerit. Aku pegang pergelangannya dia menjerit. Kelihatannya sakit banget.
There is a physiotherapist who lives not too far from our house. I brought her there and ask him what was wrong with Ibit. He couldn’t tell. He told us to take an x-ray photo to see if there was any trouble with the bones. So we right away went to a clinic for that.
According to the photo, Ibit bones were fine. But why did it hurt so badly?
The physiotherapist said it must be the tendon which was wounded. Then he started to give it some massages and infra-red light. He moved Ibit’s lower arm slowly in and out. Ibit some time still screamed when it hurt, and he would stop and start from beginning again. It took almost one hour for that first day. He said she might need at least six times therapy. But she can stop if she gets better before six times.
Kata fisioterapisnya, tendonnya yang terluka. Dia mulai memberikan pijatan dan ifra merah. Tangan Ibit digerakkan naik turun perlahan. Kadang Ibit menjerit, maka gerakkannya dihentikan sebentar, lalu mulai lagi.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
Senin, Selasa, Rabu, Kamis.
This morning, I was having my bath. Somebody knocked the door and I opened it to peak a little. It was Ibit who just woke up. She smiled and showed me her left arms, and swing it up and down. “No more hurts”, she said.
Pagi ini, aku sedang mandi. Seseorang mengetuk pintu kamar mandi, aku buka sedikit dan mengintip. Ternyata Ibit yang baru bangun tidur. Dia tersenyum dan menunjukkan tangan kirinya, diayun naik turun. "Nggak sakit lagi", katanya.
Alhamdulillah. She only needed four times therapy to get well. It is still not 100%, but she’s happy now that she can do things like taking bath, dress up, and tie her hair, all by her self.
Alhamdulillah. Dia cuma butuh empat kali terapi untuk sembuh. Belum 100% sih, tapi dia kelihatan bahgaia sekali bisa melakukan banyak hal sendiri lagi.
Dan aku juga senang melihatnya. Aku bener-bener ngga tahan waktu melihat dia menangis beberapa hari yang lalu. Sssst... sebenarnya aku malah hampir pingsan waktu nungguin dia terapi. Penakut. Aku ingin dia kuat selama terapi, biar cepat sembuh...

losing my english
these last few days i can not concentrate reading english text. i always had to stop and think so hard: what does this sentence mean?
i still can write it easily, well because it depends on me. but reading others writings in english, especially they who have english as their first language, feels so difficult lately.
see, reading english text always requires more concentration and energy for me. i don't know where they've gone. seems like i lost passion in it, thing i usually enjoyed so much.
what is going on with me?
beneran.

scary friday night...

I got what they called 'kolik' here. don't know how to say it in english. something sounds like 'abdominal kraam' or something.
like there was a blender blade spinning in my stomach, and I threw up few times. it happened again just like about a year ago when I needed to stay at hospital for a night.
so I decided to go to the hospital. the doctor offered me a shot and although I hate needles, I just said 'yes'. I didn't want to stay in hospital again. so she shot me and I felt better. I took some medicine and went home.
jadi aku putuskan pergi ke rumah sakit. dokter menawari suntik dan meskipun aku benci jarum suntik, aku langsung iya-in aja. aku nggak mau opname lagi. jadi aku disuntik dan merasa baikan. aku minum obat lalu pulang.
but at about 12.00 the blender started to work again, and I threw up again. I couldn't bear the hurt and pain, and then Dan took me to hospital and they gave me some infussion.
tapi sekitar jam 12.00 blendernya muter lagi, dan aku munt** lagi. aku gak tahan rasa sakitnya, jadi Dan anter aku ke rumah sakit dan mereka menginfusku.
I'm home now, and I'm 100% okay.
aku sudah pulang sekarang, dan 100% okay.
