Miracle Before My Eyes

They're about the same age. Aik was born 14 days after my brother's son. I think it was natural for me to expect average growths and developments on them. But what how would it feel when you finally found that your baby is delayed?

It was frustrating, at first, only to see my boy's delayed development. And it became even more when people started to compare him with his cousin. For quite a while I felt uncomfortable every time I had to visit my parents and met my brother, and his son - who grew amazingly as an energetic and smart boy.
It took time. But I have come to a point, after a long struggle, to accept Aik's condition and focus on helping him instead of thinking about what people say about him. I've learned to ignore whatever makes me uncomfortable about raising Aik. This way I live my life more peacefully. I can love him fully and cherish every progress Aik makes, that looks little for other people but some times is a leap for me.

Until few months ago, these two little miracles still couldn't really get along together. They were like living in two different worlds. I can understand how my brother's son see Aik is different, and how hard it was for him to get in touch. But there was a progress, a leap, that now they can play together although language is still a barrier.
Magic happens anytime, anywhere, if you can see. There are miracles before your eyes, if you believe.

Hari Ibu yang ke-sekian.

She knew I would knock her door and wake her up for morning prayer. Looks like she woke up earlier and put this in front of her door and back to sleep. Or pretended to.

mana ibu?
mana ibit?

----------------------

"Untuk ibu tergaul
dan ter-anti gaptek

Selamat Hari Ibu
Happy Mother's Day
Araw Pagbati Ina
Muttertags - Glückwunsche
*Sumber: Google Translate

Maafkan anak gadismu yang keseringan main HP. Mungkin kalau aku ngurangin main HP aku bisa jadi ranking satu, ya...

Stay young, stay healthy
Rajin rajin yoga
Semoga lancar selalu
Wo aini."

---------------
"Ibu aja nangis, ngko aku melu nangis"
"Ya wis tak adus wae"
---------------------

Anything he does would simply melt my heart...

--------------------------------
I am so happy that Ibit chose to congratulate me on 22 December instead of on that world's Mother's Day in May. Because this Indonesian Mother's Day is honoring women more than mother, but also their existence in and outside the house, their contribution to family, society, nation, religion, human  lives. My kids understand why I 'leave' them for work and all other activities.
Every year I think 'this is the best Mother's Day I ever have' but that because I didn't know what next Mother's Day would be. I'm not the best mother in the world, I could've been better if I would struggle more. But this is how I make myself a happy mother, so I can make my  kids happier.

Motivation, Persistence, Achievement.

My father has raised me as a sport lover. He taught me badminton, pingpong. He brought me to a habit of ‘no day without working out’. He played tennis three times a week. We had jump rope and dumbbells. Simple useful things.
As I grew up, moved to other city and built a family, I started to do aerobic exercises as a routine. It is fun and full of benefits, for my cardio, for my fitness. Now as I am aging, I need to lower the intensity of jumping. So I turned to yoga.
Being a yoga beginner, I don’t only come to classes. I open my eyes wider through internet. I search webs. And one interesting thing I found is the yoga community on Instagram.
There I found, and then follow, many yoga experts and beginners. There are so many things to share and learn.
One interesting thing I noticed is that most of the ig-yogis/yoginis post their best pictures in best pose. Including me (though I know my best is still not good enough). I think that is normal. We always want people to see good sides of us, and tend to hide the bad parts. Sometimes we just don’t realize that we don’t only learn from good things, but bad things as well.
I see that in yoga teachers instagram accounts, they post best pose, acrobatic, and often beyond my imagination. How could they have such strength and flexibility? They always come with motivating words. One said it took years before she came to her ability now, to do incredible folds and handstands and twists and more. But I only see the best part where they do things perfectly. They share tips but even tips look too complex to do.
Then I found Doodi @sister_yoga, a yoga teacher from Abu Dhabi, who continuously shares her daily practice. She is different. When other experts choose to appear elegant and classy, she comes in a casual and often naughty way. I believe some people will think she is also bitchy. But it is fine with me. She is beautiful, she is funny, she is crazy. And with her craziness she made doing yoga really fun and less depressing. Even when she says it is depressing.

She doesn't only show perfect beautiful poses. She sometimes breaks the silence with humorous costumes and captions. And the best part is, she also shares her failures in her daily practices.
Some people may think it is a shame. Or at least funny. Yes, at first I also laughed and thought, ‘this woman is crazy.’ But seriously I think it is more encouraging and motivating than only seeing perfect poses with written tips below. Beginners like me need to see the falls and ups during exercises. I see how Doodi never gives up on the way to succeed doing new difficult asanas, showing persistence, and results don’t come in an abrakadabra. For real. I’m not saying other yogi/yoginis didn't do so. I just couldn't see it. It is easier for me to absorb what I see, than if I have to take time to imagine the hard work they do. Motivations don’t come only in words but also in actions.

Showing people your failures isn't a shame. It is a brave thing to do. This is one of her falls and ups on the way to a jump handstand. I couldn't save the video to post it here so please just check out on her site.
So will I give up and say, ‘This is difficult. I will never be able to do this’ when I have to learn a new higher level asana? No way. Everyone has their own limits. I know I have mine. My biggest struggle  is to keep my spine lengthen and straight (as it is a little rounded). And off course my poor flexibility. Still I have to learn a lot. That yoga is more than body exercises; it is also for soul and mine.
As my teacher said, to always be positive, we are warriors who struggle fighting our own ego. To remind ourselves that yoga isn't a competition with people around us. It is about building our own strength and abilities. It is for own health. For our own goodness.

I am still far behind, I still have a lot more to learn. And I will try to have that motivation and persistence to get to achievements.

Ileus and I (English)

Some time ago I had written, 'Gusti, panjangaken usus kawula.' Lord, extend my intestines. In the Java language, 'long intestines' means patient. People who have long intestines are patient. And that's all I asked, to be patient. I forgot why I asked for additional patience then.

A week later the God grant my plea. I was trained to be patient. And in the true meaning, my intestines were really stretched, straightened from abnormal conditions: twisted.

Various comments came from friends about my situation. Some say I've worked out too much. Others said I did too much twisting and folding in yoga. Hm ... make sense ... NOT!

Mysterious ileus.

"Ileus (Paralytic ileus, adynamic ileus) is a condition where the normal movement of contraction of the intestinal wall temporarily stopped. As a mechanical blockage, ileus intestinal contents also in its way, but rarely ileus caused perforation."

The result of browsing here and there, ileus may be caused by an infection, tumor, severe diarrhea, outside the intestinal abnormalities (eg, renal failure or abnormal electrolyte levels), an underactive thyroid gland. In my case, the intestinal twisted because there are parts of the intestine that should be down, permanently attached to the gut above it and formed a connective tissue. At the point where it occurs, it clogged.

Ileus and I

Beberapa waktu yang lalu aku sempat menulis, 'Gusti, panjangaken usus kawula.' Tuhan, panjangkan ususku.

Seminggu kemudian Tuhan kabulkan permohonanku.

Hm... make sense... NOT!

Finale (?)

They say February is a month of love. But I experienced broken heart several times instead.

I had to let go Peggy,  me beloved ride, for particular reason. She's healthy. There's nothing wrong with her, unless, we had to choose to keep her or Livy. We thought having two cars in a house would be too much. As we have 6 family members, Peggy would be to small for all. So we decided to keep Livy.

How ever it wasn't easy. We asked a friend to take care everything. The time I got the news, that Peggy was sold, I cried. She was more than a ride. She was a part of me. I and her understood each other. With her I could run fast and always feel safe. It's not that Livy is not safe. It's just, I don't feel any bond with it.

The other heart breaking moment is today as I visited Sunday Scribblings. It's February 2014 and I just found out that it has stopped prompting at December 2013. I know I haven't been participating for over two or three years. I some times stopped by and walk around the link. Today I'm doing it to find it's 400th post, that be the last.

I used to participate regularly around 2007-2008 when I started blogging. I needed some thing to start writing. And I needed to communicate with other bloggers, them who I found on the links. I can't remember exactly when I stopped participating. It's been a long time.

Still it is sad to see some thing good has to end up. I see many people have been 'faithful' being parts of the prompts. So far. Until 400.

***

Life wouldn't end up just because I lost Peggy, and Sunday Scribblings no longer prompting. This is my new part of life: without Peggy, nor, new prompts from Sunday Scribblings. An ending of a scene has always been a new beginning to a new one.

the reasons

you once found a reason to give up
one other time you had a reason to give in
but then you find reasons to hold on

life is never easy
and to me 13 never means unlucky
it's a happy anniversary

the present to myself

you who haven't experience this, may find it hard to understand or even imagine what babies mean to a mother. they're everything. I mean everything. if you lost them you have nothing.

they're the one who make you stand through all storms and thunders, burning sun and heavy rain.
they make you strong to bear every pain
they make you tough you can wipe (or hide) your tears
they make you the best actress in the world
they keep your sanity stands when the whole world goes crazy

I'm not talking about you pretending to love them. 'coz no matter what you do, no matter what you say, no matter how you deny; you love them.

you'll give everything you have, and more
you want to always make them believe you're okay
you never know what pain they'll suffer if the found out you're not

so never mind thinking about a birthday present.
their presence has always been the best present, and hope it will always be.

happy birthday to me.

The Comfort

I found that some babies have special stuffs to comfort them in the bed times. One of my nephew has a little towel he holds while asleep. The other one has a little soft fabric doggie. My friend's daughter can not sleep without her ugly little bolster.
aku mendapati beberapa anak punya barang kesayangan yang membuat mereka nyaman tidur. salah satu keponakanku punya handuk kecil yang dikeloni kalau tidur. yang lain punya boneka anjing dari kain. anak temenku ga bisa tidur kalau ga peluk guling kecil jeleknya.

It's cute. But it would be a disaster when you go somewhere without those stuffs. They can not sleep. Or at least hard to sleep well and sound. That's why I never let my kids have one.
lucu sih. tapi repot kalau pas bepergian kelupaan ga bawa. anaknya jadi ga bisa tidur. kalau bisa pun pakai rewel dan gelisah. makanya aku ga biasakan anakku punya barang-seperti itu.

I thought.
pikirku.

Because in fact Ai' has such stuff. That ugly beads bracelet around my wrist. He's not too much depending on it. But it helps a lot to comfort him. I was thinking about putting the bracelet on his wrist. But beads are not safe for babies, I think.

So I assume it is me that comforts him. Ya, me wearing the bracelet. And it feels so good...

wish me a happy birthday and more...

... coz I don't want to be happy on my birthday, but then sad tomorrow and the next days...

GOD, I don't want a lot for my birthday. YOU've given me more than I've ever asked for, and I am always grateful for that.
but... may be YOU can have some one to send me a Blackberry...

the due date

this is me, I just took my very own picture with my cellphone, few minutes ago.

how do I look?

fat ?
beautiful?
ugly?
happy?
sad?

no matter how I look, let me tell you how I am feeling inside, right now.

I am frustrated.

this is my due date and I still haven't got any signs. the doctor said if the baby doesn't come within a week, he will induce me -- or I might need a section.

I don't want either one. I hope everything will go, normally.

the illiterate

gaptek

that's me.
technology some times drives me crazy.

iya, aku.
teknologi kadang bikin bete.

I like my old Sony Ericsson C510 cell-phone with it's built in camera. it is simple as a camera but I think so cool for a camera-phone. it is auto focus, can take macro photos, and the best part is, I can simply send every picture I took to Face Book and to 'Stupidshots' - my photo blog on Blogger. Sony Ericsson has prepared it for me.

today, everyone around holds qwerty cell phone, cell-phones with computer-keyboard-alike key pad. first was Black Berry, and now every name has this kind of phone. I, my self, never thought it was cool. I think qwerty-keypad is weird and touch screen like i-Phone is way cool.

but, i-Phone is not affordable, for me. so as an i-Phone wannabe I bought Samsung Monte. it was beautiful and looked just as cool as I wanted it to be. the problems is, you need to be some one so soft to do touching. I can't be. I don't touch, I hit. so it didn't work. I was frustrated using it, especially when it came to typing. after a week stressed, I sold it.
tapi i-Phone itu ga terjangkau olehku. jadi aku beli Samsung Monte yang mirip-mirip. keren sih. masalahnya, kalo mau make henpon touchscreen itu kudu orang lembut. aku ngga bisa. karena aku ngga bisa sekedar 'menyentuh', aku cenderung mengetuk. jadi ga klop. frustrasi makenya, apalagi kalo nulis. makanya setelah stress seminggu, akhirnya kujual lagi

I should have been thankful and just held on to my Sony Ericsson, but I didn't. I bought this.

Nokia E71

it is a qwerty I know. and I am not ashamed to finally confess, although it looks weird, it is easier for me to type texts. so I lived with the qwerty thing. it also has a 3,2 mpx autofocus camera. but, this phone doesn't have that simple feature to send pictures to FB and Blogger. for a while I thought, maybe I just haven't found it. but after some exploring I found that Blogger is not included in the webs this phone supports for sending picture directly. I need to set up a mobile blogging for my phone.

this morning I spent hours learning how to start blogger-on-the-go, and it's not as simple as sending a text message, as told in the Blogger help center, because I don't live in US. so I did other way, set up my mobile blogging via email.
tadi sepagian aku mempelajari bagaimana memulai blogger-on-the-go. tapi ternyata ga semudah kirim sms seperti yang ada di help-centernya Blogger, soalnya aku tidak pake nomor US. jadi harus set up mobile blogging via email.

here, I got confuse, whether I had to make a new email account right from my cell-phone, or I could just use my old account but access it through phone. what I did was, I set the Nokia email wizard using my old account - I had to install it. well it worked. I did a test and I succeeded posting a picture. but then, like in every second my phone beeped. a notification of an incoming email. GOD. the email I put in my phone was an email I use to join a crazy mail-list, which sends me over one hundred emails in a day. this really drove me crazy.

I said to my phone crazily: ' I know you are beautiful but stupid!'
kataku kepada henponku: kamu cantik tapi oon.

I immediately open the manual book to find out how to turn off the notification but again I was frustrated. the manual book was in Bahasa Indonesia while I set my phone language in English. may be I am weird but I feel technical language translated to Bahasa Indonesia IS weird and confusing... after some hard working (well not that hard actually...) I gave up. more over, lately I found that I was charged for every incoming email notification. NOWAY. that is such a waste, unless I buy an unlimited data-content package. but why should I do that, it is not that urgent, for me.
lekas aku cari buku manualnya, gimana caranya matiin email notifikasi, tapi yang ada aku malah tambah bete. buku manualnya cuma tersedia dalam Bahasa Indonesia, padahal henponku aku set berbahasa Inggris. mungkin aku aneh, tapi menurutku bahasa teknis yang diterjemahkan ke Bahasa Indonesia itu yang aneh dan membingungkan. setelah bekerja keras (ngga terlalu keras sih...) aku menyerah. apalagi kemudian ketauan bahwa setiap ada notifikasi pulsaku berkurang. enak aja. mubadzir itu namanya. kecuali aku beli paket data unlimited. tapi buat apa, ga terlalu penting buatku.

so I un-installed my Nokia emailing instead of just turning off the email notification. I know I have to find some other way to be able to send pictures right from my phone, and some how I will. 'coz I know this phone is smart, only I am illiterate and need to learn A LOT more. wish me luck.

the empty tea cups

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecilyand Caitlin

last night when I got home from work, I accompany my children to study. then I let them watch an anime movie a friend lent me.
semalam sepulang kerja, aku menemani anak-anak belajar sebentar. lalu mereka nonton film yang kupinjam dari seorang teman
in the middle of the movie Ibit said she wanted some tea and asked if I would made some for her. I said I would. after I took a bathe and prayed I made the tea and served it for the kids and Dan.

it was 9 PM, Ibit asked if they were allowed to sleep over the night time, to finish the movie. I said it was okay, 'but don't forget to do the prayer before bed'.
I was darn too sleepy to join them watch the movie, so I just laid down on the mattress and shut my eyes. I think I fell asleep just view minutes later.

about 10 and a quarter they turned off the media and ready for bed. faintly I heard 'gluk.. gluk.. gluk..' the sound of Ibit drinking her tea. then...
Ibit: 'Ar, Ir, aren't you going to finish drinking your tea?'
not sure Ar or Ir: 'it's not warm anymore, not good. I don't want it anymore...'
Ibit: 'drink it. Ibu was so tired but still made it for us, you should respect her. poor Ibu if you don't drink it'

sekitar jam sepuluh seperempat aku dengar tivi dimatikan. sayup terdengar suara 'gluk.. gluk.. gluk..' Ibit meminum tehnya. lalu...
Ibit: 'Ar, Ir, kalian ga habisin tehnya?'
entah Ar atau Ir: 'udah ngga anget, ngga enak. aku ngga mau lagi'
Ibit: ' minum, dik. Ibu tadi udah capek-capek bikinin, kasihan kalau nga diminum..."

and both Ar and Ir drank it.
'it still taste good though it's not warm...' one of the twin said.

Ar dan Ir meminumnya.
'eh, masih enak ya walaupun udah ngga anget lagi...' kata salah satu kembarku.

and off they went down stairs, to bed.
dan mereka pergi tidur.

***

this morning I woke up and found those three empty little cups.
oh yes they are empty, but my heart is filled. what the kid did was such a simple thing. but I found it so touching...

I was [not] born to wear make ups

I do have lipstick
and I do have face powder
I also have blush on
and lip liner
eye brow liner
and I have eye shadow
I don't have mascara 'coz I still find it so hard to put it on, afraid it might stab my eyes.

but I wear them sooooo rarely.

early this week I visit neighbor district government office. we met the secretary and I was amazed. she was dang so pretty, energetic, warm, looks bright and clever, and tinier than me. and she wore make ups. I guess she wore every kind of make up I own, plus mascara.

I imagined if I wore all that I have, I could look a little more than she did. oh please. I would be taller, which I am. but I'm not that pretty. I can't be much energetic with this tummy and the baby inside. and I'm not in the mood to be warm. and I don't look bright nor clever.

but this morning I wanted to give it a try. so I opened up my cosmetic wallet.
puff puff puff... some powder.
I opened up my lipstick and...

it was new, and I only have used it twice. first was, on my book launching december 10 last year. second was, on my friend's wedding party last week. but I barely can remember how my lipstick could experience this.

the lipstick spotted my finger. so I just rubbed it on my lips. and closed my wallet.

I lost me desire to make up my face. I'm much prettier without. I accept my destiny, I was not born to wear make ups.

the change

Sasa used to be a funny girl. she likes to play and some times bite me a little. my hand, my cheek, my nose.

I noticed she became calmer when she started pregnant. all she wanted to do was lazy. I remember I was in my lazy first weeks of my pregnancy. my children said that I and Sasa were two lazy pregnant mommies. o yeah.

Sasa is now a mother to these two lovely kittens. so, after the pregnancy is over, has the laziness gone? yes. but the old Sasa didn't come back. I now see her as a grown up lady who moves elegantly. she always be aware looking after her babies. she doesn't like to play anymore. a mother.
sekarang Sasa adalah ibu dari dua cemeng kecil lucu ini. jadi, setelah selesai hamil, apakah 'malas'nya juga pergi? iya, tapi Sasa yang dulu tidak kembali. sekarang aku lihat dia jadi wanita dewasa yang anggun. dia selalu waspada menjaga anak-anaknya. ngga suka bermain lagi. seekor ibu kucing.

so I look at my self and try to see if there was any same kind of changes after I became a mother. but I found out that I'm still the same silly girl with crazy things in my head. being a mother didn't put out my 'insanity'. I still do some silly and (some times) childish things that make me look less like a grown up lady.

I don't know if it is a good or a bad thing. some may say I'm not normal, but I do feel there is nothing wrong being a silly mommy. just as long you take a good care of your family...

the question is, can I?
pertanyaannya adalah, bisa tidak?

like mother like daughter

I know it's late for a photo story Friday, but I do it anyway.
memang telat kalau mau disebut postingan hari jumat. tapi biar lah.

this week is ours. yes it is. Ibit had a short story she wrote published on her school magazine. and I have mine published on a local tabloid (yes that same tabloid again) Cempaka.

the best thing about this is surely for Ibit. she got some fee from school for the publishing of her story. not much but I know it meant a lot to her. me? fee is not that important. the most important thing for me is that my writing is read by people. sounds idealist I know...

I think I have to start thinking about sending my writings to other media. appearing in the same tabloid too often could be boring for the readers. and I believe Ibit needs to start sending hers to real magazines out there.
bismillah.
