Eid in The Time of Corona and Life After

super late post for a never imagined Eid celebration.

we prayed at home, Dan be the Imam and Khotib. we didn't visit our parents. we visited our neighbors but only greeted from outside the gates. it was weird but intimate. but weird.
but covid 19 has made many things in life weird. many things are no longer the same. the government has announced 'new normal' life and my translation of new normal is we are not as free to do things as we did before.
not until we are sure the cases are lowering (or stopped). and still it will never be the same, ever. the awareness during pandemic will stay remain. I hope.

Buka Bersama 2019

it's not where you do it, but who are you with. I thank everyone who has been good friends and family without judgements. I love you all, hope we can do more of this in the next years.

What Makes Me (Not) A Good Mom

First day work after Eid holidays, but the kids are still in holidays until this upcoming weekend.
My friend woke up early at 3 AM and cook for breakfast and lunch for her kids. This is what I prepared for breakfast. I cooked rice in the cooker for lunch — with beef floss in the jar and kids can fry eggs if they want to.

How was your Eid?
I might write a recap in the next post. hope I have energy for it.

Hari Ibu yang ke-sekian.

She knew I would knock her door and wake her up for morning prayer. Looks like she woke up earlier and put this in front of her door and back to sleep. Or pretended to.

mana ibu?
mana ibit?

----------------------

"Untuk ibu tergaul
dan ter-anti gaptek

Selamat Hari Ibu
Happy Mother's Day
Araw Pagbati Ina
Muttertags - Glückwunsche
*Sumber: Google Translate

Maafkan anak gadismu yang keseringan main HP. Mungkin kalau aku ngurangin main HP aku bisa jadi ranking satu, ya...

Stay young, stay healthy
Rajin rajin yoga
Semoga lancar selalu
Wo aini."

---------------
"Ibu aja nangis, ngko aku melu nangis"
"Ya wis tak adus wae"
---------------------

Anything he does would simply melt my heart...

--------------------------------
I am so happy that Ibit chose to congratulate me on 22 December instead of on that world's Mother's Day in May. Because this Indonesian Mother's Day is honoring women more than mother, but also their existence in and outside the house, their contribution to family, society, nation, religion, human  lives. My kids understand why I 'leave' them for work and all other activities.
Every year I think 'this is the best Mother's Day I ever have' but that because I didn't know what next Mother's Day would be. I'm not the best mother in the world, I could've been better if I would struggle more. But this is how I make myself a happy mother, so I can make my  kids happier.

Finger Activity

Semua mengerang.

"Jadi bengong ini kita nunggu pesanannya datang..." kata Ibit.

Lalu semua sibuk mencari kesibukan jari. Ibit memilin-milin ujung kudung. Lucu.

Akhirnya aku ajak mereka main tebak kata. Pelan tapi :D

Huruf pertama yang muncul adalah J. Jerapah. Dan tidak ada lagi. Lalu diulang dan muncul huruf S. Sapi, singa, siamang, serigala...

Setelah beberapa huruf, akhirnya pesanan datang.

14

we make mistakes, then we regret
we can forgive, but can not forget
still we learn, some things don't deserve our sacrifaction.

What happen to Cinderella and the Prince after the wedding? The fairy tale said the got married and live happily ever after. I hope they do.
Semoga.

'Coz in live I find, marriage is way more than live happily ever after. It is a compromizing ever after. You change. Your spouse changes. Life changes. And after since, life is a never ending adaption. Once you may find it hard, and you make mistakes. Some times you don't realize it at all. Some times you realize it is wrong and try to make it right. But there are times you realize it and choose to ignore...

As I walk the miles, I know I've made lots of mistakes. The small ones. The biggest one. But sure I wouldn't call this gorgeous young lady a mistake...

...neither these silly boys we often call possums...

...neither this lovely boy I can't live without.

And therefore it would be a mistake to call the years we've passed a mistake.

Either we are the drivers, or the ride. One thing is sure, we are the ones to carry on the children to a better life. And so, we should never give up compromizing and adapting each other through all changes along the way...

Hope we will always be strong.
Semoga kami bisa tetap bertahan.

Lebaran di Gunung (Edisi I)

Aku anak gunung. Tapi aku suka pantai. Kami sekeluarga suka pantai. Yogya. Pacitan.
I'm a girl from up the hill. But I always love beaches. My whole family do. Whenever we have time together, we will manage a picnic. Mostly to beaches in Yogya or Pacitan.

Usually, we gather at my parents' house, or at one of ours during the school holidays. Eid also be the other moment to gather.

Main kartu. Main Play Station. Nyumet kembang api.
This Eid we were not in the  mood to go to beaches. Like we always do when everyone is around, we just did simple things such as playing cards and games and set fireworks and talked here and there. And off course a walk. After shalat Eid we went to a restaurant in Karanganyar highland. They have more than just foods. Many games were ready for the kids to play while the adults had seats and talks. Some were busy taking pictures of the children.

Begini kami tidur jika semua berkumpul. Berserakan di mana-mana...

Tidak jauh dari situ ada kebun teh. Lokasinya lumayan eksotis. Apalagi ketika sampai di sana langit sedang menjatuhkan gerimis. Ditambah hawa dingin pegunungan, warung kopi pinggir jalan dan mi instan membuat sore menjadi renyah untuk dikunyah.
A little lower from the restaurant area there was a tea plantation. Quite exotic. More over when we got there the sky was pouring soft raindrops. Together with the cool wind, a small coffee shop and hot instant noodle, they make the afternoon crunchy to enjoy...

Kami sebrayat :)

Sebelum pulang kami mampir ke air terjun Parang Ijo. Tidak sebesar Grojogan Sewu, tapi cantik. Airnya lebih dingin dari udaranya. Tapi anak-anak nekat juga mandi di kolamnya. Brr.
Before we went home, we stopped by at Parang Ijo waterfall. Not as big as Grojogan Sewu, but beatiful. The water was even colder than the weather, but still the kids jumped in. Brr.

The day after, morning before we visited familis, we took the  kids in a hiking up the hill near home. When I was a kid, my father often brought me there. It is not too high. It only needs less than 30 minutes walking to get up to the peak. Then we can look to the north and see our village. To the west and spread the view to the border of the town. To the south east and see Gajah Mungkur Dam.

It has been years since my last hiking there, the path has become easier to pass through. Cars and motor bike can run half way up. After that you just have to walk up stairs, and a little climb on the last rock to the peak.

Sedikit sebelum puncak bukit...

Liburan bersama saudara-saudaraku selalu melelahkan. Tapi menyenangkan.
Vacation with my siblings and the kids are always tiring. But FUN. And we're always addicted to do the next one.

The Vacation

This is one of my favorite time. When all members of family come together...

It was a quite long weekend. A trip to Anyer was a quite long one too. But it is worth it. We always love beaches. We could spend all day long bathing and swimming.

Oh but off course we didn't. I mean, not that all day long. I mean, the kids did. I mean, we, adults has more to think than riding banana boat or surfing. I couldn't just let my mother take care of Dek Aik while I was having fun in the waves. Me and sisters had to make sure every other things are well prepared. Other than just get drawn and choked in the water. The cottage, the clothes, the food, the energy. Yes we have to save a lot to be able to enjoy the whole long week end, in fun.

(almost) all the members of big fam

play with the waves

temporary tattoo would be cool enough during the holiday. make sure it is gone by the time you have to go to school :))

It was fun. It was a huge happiness to have such a family time. With parents, siblings, kids, in laws...

We're looking forward for the next one!

Balikpapan lagi!

Tapi demi mengunjungi Mbah, biar berat dibikin ringan. Yang penting Mbahnya senang, anak-anak apalagi.
Last long week end we decided to visit Dan's parents in Balikpapan. After four years since our former visit. Quite long, huh? Well, going to Balikpapan is not that simple. Especially when it comes to cost :D

Like our visit  before, we took a flight from Yogya. We stayed for half- a nite there, and met my blogger friend, om Warm, and his family. Together we brought the kids to Kids Festival at JEC. Many games you could play. And there was mini zoo by Gembira Loka Zoo.

bapak-bapak kompak baby sitting :D

I was worried that Dek Aik would cry in the flight. but he was just fine. He sat and calm during tha take off and landing, opening the in-flight shop book...

March 21st was Ar and Ir's birthday. Mbah Putri made Nasi Kuning for a little birthday celebration. After a prayer from Mbah Kakung, we had the nasi kuning for breakfast...

The most exciting thing about going to Balikpapan is beach. And there is noway you can keep us away from it...

Hari kedua, pantai lagi. Kali ini bersama keluarga Budhe dan sepupu-sepupu. Rame. Piknik makan di pantai seru juga. Walaupun makanan dan minuman kena pasir sedikit sedikit, tetap nikmat :D
The second day, we went to Manggar Beach. This time we went together with Auntie and cousins. A little picnic is fun.

Dua hari memang kurang. Harusnya seminggu gitu...
Two days are definitely not enough. But that's better than nothing at all. Hopefully we will have another time, a longer time, to visit Mbah...

The Super Woman

My mother is the strongest woman I've ever known. She's a fighter; a survivor.

She's been bearing the weight of life since she was young, until she got married, then had and raised us: her children.

Later in her dawn, she needs to have a therapy for her back twice a week. Still she goes to the orthopedic hospital by bus, alone. It has been going on for the last 6 years.

But you never know what luck brings you. Last week she was on her way to the hospital for the therapy. She just stepped down the bus and about to walk across the street when a kid with a speedy motorbike hit her, right in front of the hospital.

She got fainted for at least 2 hours, before she finally could asked the nurses to call my elder sister.

***

For two days she had super terrible headache. It was like, she said, the world is turning around and make her sick. Her right leg was broken and needs a surgery. But it can't be done until the headache stops.

Now as the headache is reducing, she can sit up and insists to brush her hair and have her meals by herself. The docs said she's ready for the surgery tomorrow. I hope everything goes well, and my mother soon will be able to run here and there again; like she used to.

Hey little reckless motorbiker kid, you can't beat this strong lady.

The 25 of Us

This is the best moment of Eid Fitri. Our BIG family, all comes together. Doing crazy things. Watching the kids playing (and fighting) while the adults busy talking (and chewing)...

My sister has a great camera so we all depend on her for documentations. I didn't even shoot with my BB, which normally I would. But all the snapshots were gone, for the memory card was error :(

So thankful we took this picture with the other camera and at least we have the pict of the whole family...

Eid Mubarak, every one!

a [late] Eid note

I forgot how long I've paused blogging. Not because I wanted to but more because I had to. I had crazy time during Ramadhan. Ar was sick. And then Eidl Fitri came. I went 'home' visited my parents and was not connected to internet for almost two weeks. The time I go back home, my computer was having an error. Now that it is fixed, I knew I've missed too much to write...

but at least I still have this to remind me about precious moment we had this Eid

there, me and Dan, and the children, and my parents.

it was so wonderful to have all my siblings, all with their families, come together. only a day and a night, but no words can describe the happiness we had.
my sister suddenly came as a surprise. we didn't expect her to come because her husband was sick and just had had a surgery. but there they were!

there, the kids and uncles playing futsal

there, the grandparents with all grand children

there, my parents with me and all my siblings

I hope we can still have the togetherness in the future...

HAPPY [late late late] EID MUBARAK

baby and daddy

I always hope there is a strong tie between fathers and sons. as strong as the ties I have built between me and my children, years before I go back to working world. it is sad to find that we spend most of our time working then being with our family. but however, I keep trying to optimize the family time we have.

Dan works six days a week, from 08.00 am to whenever he needs to go home. no, it doesn't mean he can go home any time he wants. it means he can only go home when the work is done, and it can be anytime, late, over the working hours.

I, and my children, some times protest his in-existence. spending more time out there than being with family. he goes out every morning, at the same time my children go to school. he come home at night, often when my children are all already go to bed.

I have made some conditions to make Dan 'have to' interact with the children. for example, I used to give some money to my children every Monday. now I make Dan do it. some times he forgot and just goes to work like that. so my children ask me for the money. and I said, "that's Bapak's part. you ask him."

but with baby Ai', I can not do that. baby Ai' still don't know any thing about money :D

I still want my baby to interact with Dan. so some times I pushed Dan to sit down and put Ai' on his arms. not because I have to do something else, or because I'm tired carrying him. I just want him to be with his father.

well I hope it'll work. and as the baby grows up, I need to find more ways for us to keep connected each other...

PETALS (I hate you but I miss you)

a note from a family reunion, 25-26 december 2009. nothing more 'delicious' than being with our family...

=================

I've often wondered if there's ever been a perfect family / I've always longed for undividedness and sought stability
…...
And I miss you little sis and Little brother / And I hope you realize I'll always love you
And although you're struggling you will recover / And I miss you little sis and little brother
......
But I miss you dandelion
And even love you

=================

Maunya jajal nyanyi sendiri, tapi cari chordnya setengah mati ngga ketemu, dan kalau berkeras nyari sendiri mungkin ga akan ketemu sampai mati. Jadi mendingan dengar langsung dari penyanyi aslinya… PETALS
I wanted to sing it by myself, but i was dying trying to find the chords. I might already be dead if I kept trying. So please enjoy the song from the very own singer.. PETALS

=================

I will not be ashamed to confess that we are not siblings without fights. Nor never been contaminated with jealousy. I wouldn't say we are in a 100% harmony. But that doesn;t mean we do not love each other.

Relationships between siblings feels different, how it was when we were children and now as we have children. Long ago some things seemed so important to fight over, now we laugh at. Long ago some times we thought the existence of siblings some times bothering. Now without them we feel some thing's missing.

Being together become a moment we miss. Then when the time come, we wouldn't give a damn to any differences those made us missunderstand. I don't care if you think I don't educate my children right. I don't care if you can't understand my craziness. I don't care if you some times so stiff. I don't care if you always think you are always right. I don't care if you don't agree with my opinions.

We only have couple days and we will not stain it with things not fun. So I will eat with you though I don't like the menus in the restaurant you chose. I will go to the place you want to go though it will kill me. I will let your children do mess up my car, though after this I will have to work hard cleaning it. I will bury my ego -- for these couple days.

Mari tertawa melihat tingkah anak kita yang polos.
Let us laugh to see our children.
