this post is also submitted for Tuesday Toot. this week's toot is for Indonesia for celebrating it's 64th Independence day, and for the children in my neighborhood for having a great time in the games.

Lomba 17-an

the most exciting thing for the children about 17 August, more than it is as Indonesia Independence Day, is the games. off course. I found it hard to be able to feel deeply the meaning of independence, since I have breathe the freedom since my first breath. how can I expect them to?

hal paling menyenangkan buat anak-anak tentang 17 Agustus, melebihi maknanya sebagai Hari Kemerdekaan Indonesia, adalah lomba-lombanya. tentu saja. aku sendiri masih merasa sulit untuk benar-benar bisa memaknai kemerdekaan, karena nafas pertamaku pun kuhirup dalam kemerdekaan. bagaimana aku mau menuntut mereka bisa begitu?

so I'll just always be grateful that I didn't experience the colonization by Dutch and Japan hundred years ago. I'll just always be thankful for the freedom we are having. and I will pray for any other country in the world that hasn't been in, to soon reach their independence.

jadi aku akan selalu bersyukur bahwa aku tidak mengalaqmi masa penjajahan ratusan tahun yang lalu. aku akan selalu bersyukur untuk kemerdekaan yang sekarang kita nikmati. dan aku berdoa untuk semua bangsa di dunia yang belum merdeka, untuk dapat segera meraih kemerdekaannya.


and I am grateful to be able to see these children live happily, being a part of the freedom.
dan aku bersyukur anak-anak ini hidup bahagia, menjadi bagian dari kemerdekaan

Semalem kami jalan-jalan ke Jateng Fair, acara tahunan yang biasanya diadakan antara pertengahan Juli hingga pertengahan Agustus untuk menyambut hari kemerdekaan tanggal 17 Agustus.
Masih seperti acara tahun-tahun sebelumnya. Tapi kali ini kami nemu sesuatu yang menarik. Sebuah toko batik membuka pelatihan batik, dan membolehkan pengunjung mencoba sebagian kecil dari seluruh proses panjang pembuatan batik (bayar, tentu saja, Rp. 20.000).

Last night we went to Jateng Fair, an annual event held from medio July until medio August to welcome our indepence day, 17 August.
It was just any Fair we have come to before. But this time we found some thing quite interesting. A batik shop had a batik painting course, and let people to try to do a little part of long process doing the painting on batik fabrics (we had to pay, off course, Rp. 20.000 or about USD 2,5).

membatik dengan malam cair panas kayanya agak berbahaya buat Ar dan Ir. jadi yang jaga standnya membantu proses canting-nya, jadi mereka tinggal mewarnai saja.
I thought hot melted wax is a little bit dangerous for Ar and Ir, so the shop keeper helped them doing the 'canting' process. they just had to do the coloring

tadinya kupikir Ir ngga akan cukup sabar. tapi aku salah. hehe... aku lupa kalau Ir pernah juara lomba mewarnai, jadi pastilah dia bakal sabar kalo cuma nggambar beginian aja...
at the beginning I thought Ir wouldn't be patient enough to do this. but I was wrong. I forgot that he once won a coloring contest. so doing such thing must not be so hard for him

they truly are Pak Sungkono's grand-kids. his 'painting-art blood' flows in my children's bodies...

I was trembling...

terpaku pada jari-jariku yang berlompatan seperti tak terkontrol. aku tak mendengar dia, aku tak mendengar yang lainnya. han, ceritakan padaku…
stucked to my almost uncontrolled jumping fingers. I didn't hear her, I didn't hear anyone else. Dan, tell me what happened...

sunyi. semua terdiam. terhipnotis. aku bahkan gemetaran mengambil gambarnya.
it was so quite. every one stayed in silence, hypnotized. I was trembling also taking her picture

FREEDOM!!!

Indonesia's Independence Day is on 17 August, which is tomorrow. We have started the celebrations from few days ago.
these are some pictures from our independence day celebration in my neighborhood. not the best shots, everybody was moving and my cam isn't good enough for that...

we prayed for our heroes who has fought with their blood to free this country from Dutch and Japan



games for dads: they had to move 5 marbles in a plate filled with flour to a little bowl, using their mouth



games for moms: they have to put a pencil tied behind their back into a bottle




every kid got a gift






and hot soto was great for a cold night dinner
